Steamed Egg Cake

It's been awhile. Let's just say ice cream has taken over my life and I come home smelling like dairy and caked with custard. Perth is coming up soon and I'm not even sure if I have enough clean clothes. After that will be Eid (this season always brings me back to the amazing soto ayam at F's last year, with the bloated begedil at the bottom of the bowl) and then I'll find myself in London again, for a little engagement celebration.

So in between after-work hours and falling asleep ungracefully on my desk I've been sleuthing on the 'nets for local delicacies and narrowing them by level of difficulty. Foods that made the cut: kuih keria and tong yuen. And steamed egg cake. I love steamed egg cake. It's unrefined and eggy to some but it's all fluffy joy to me. Every time I see them at the pasar malam (in those yellow plastic trays or packed in plastic bags with strings) I get all excited.

While I've never been very huzzah about going to Perth (or any part of Australia really, sorry folks), with all that's going on and all that's to come, I'm quite ready for the sleepy suburbs of Western Australia. A lull could do me some good.
