It's amazing how much can take place in a year. Last year in July I went for an OM missions trip and things were never the same again. In more ways than one. The decision to plunge into uncertainty, and having met people who now are an important part of my life, and surrendering thing into His hands.
A year later, things are very different from what I had worked it out to be/daydreamed about. Different, but definitely better. It wasn't a stroll in the park, and many times I had paused long enough to wonder if I understood God wrongly. But as I think through all that has happened (almost always in amazement) I could see that the pieces (strange and random at times) were sewn in by Him.
A few weeks ago Dave popped in for a visit, and we did some travelling - Penang, Cameron Highlands and Port Dickson. We packed sandwiches and cake, drove to Teluk Kemang (incidentally I found out a week later that where we were was next to the place where we first met) and spent the day by the sea.
It has been almost a year of Skype, phone calls, letters, packages and flights. A year of learning, laughter, discovery and growth (and lots of awkward questions :p) But in a few months we will finally share the same postcode, for the first time.
Returning to OM's Out of the Comfort Zone conference a year later, back to the place where it all started, I can still remember the night I met Dave and Almut for the first time, and my first words were embarassed mumbles about not really knowing how the Myanmar flag looks like (I'd been there twice, surely it wasn't acceptable). Dave was wearing something safari-like, something white with khakis. Coming back from outreach, MK & SB cheekily asked if anything could happen between the both of us and I went flat-out 'No.'
Life is quite a funny thing sometimes.
It was good to be back. This year we did workshops on skits, children's ministry, and I'll always remember the sketches Su-Kim and I did to illustrate cross-cultural differences, especially the one where we did the loud, over-enthusiastic, camera-happy tourist-thing. No pictures this time round, except for some shots of a sleeping cat found near the dining hall (above).

A month later...and there's still no new post!
Has it been that long? Apparently so. Let me amend that now.
