In Between Places

Last week was spent trying to make sense of things. It has been three weeks at the new place and I multiplied it in my head a hundred times to try to feel how it'd be like for the next 11 months.

Today I watched History Boys while having coffee and biscuits. The one in the class who ended up being a teacher said, "Maybe that's why I'm a good teacher. I'm not happy, but I'm not unhappy about it."

There's a truth in it that I recognise, but it sounds purgatory-like.

But I'm pleased to be able to have a day to myself and celebrate my first Labour Day. While there's nothing to celebrate, really, I understand now when my mum said that when you start working, all you can ever think about are public holidays (I'm already thinking about Wesak Day). My dad, however, insists that it's paydays. For now, it's the lunch date with some friends this Saturday. And the resurrection of the bi-monthly gigs we used to do, at the end of May.

I'm no real DVD/VCD buyer, but when I saw titles of my absolute favourite films in the bargain bin of a video store, I just had to bring them home with me. I now have Napoleon Dynamite within arm's reach whenever and wherever I desire.

How's Tricks

I smelt imaginary coffee a second ago. The kind of whiff that comes with plunging down a french press.

It has been almost three weeks since I last wrote, and too much has transpired since. To slice close to the bone and keep it clean, I am now employed and have no time to even run the laundry. Not having clean clothes at your disposal is making me very agitated. I've not had sleep for a week, and going to work everyday has been like being a circus monkey on a wheel, juggling bananas and looking awkward and things like that.

The daily morning jam reduces me to thoughts of being hippie-carefree and being a bag lady. Bag ladies never need to wake up hours before just to get to work on time, squeeze through disgusting traffic (and equally disgusting driving manners) or sing out loud to Lady Gaga to avoid falling asleep.

We had our final run of the Easter play today, and then went to have Italian and watched 'Confessions of a Shopaholic'. I hope life eases into some kind of normality soon.

*'How's tricks?' is a way of saying 'What you been up to?'. I don't understand the connection, but it kinda resembles the prevailing circus theme of the week.
